AmaWaterways recently said that a new ship will sail Vietnam/Cambodia cruises on the Mekong River in 2026.

But it won't be called the AmaKaia, the company's announced name choice, because AmaWaterways discovered that Emerald Cruises' next luxury ship will have a similar name. The Emerald Kaia is also arriving in 2026.

"There is a Kaia out there," said AmaWaterways co-founder and president Rudi Schreiner.

And so, the company's Mekong ship will be the AmaMaya.

Schreiner said AmaWaterways made the decision to change the ship's name "within days" of its original announcement on May 30.

The AmaMaya will join the AmaDara in Cambodia and Vietnam, where both ships will sail Ama's two itineraries, the seven-night Charms of the Mekong and seven-night Riches of the Mekong between Siem Reap and Ho Chi Minh City.
